The main thing that differentiates Xbox pads from every other controller is that they still use AA batteries. Apparently, this is due to a dunderheaded deal with Duracell to supply batteries for Xbox controllers Microsoft can’t get out of. Whatever the case, we can all agree that having the hunt for batteries in the middle of a boss fight is a pain in the arse.
Thankfully Gioteck has your back with their new range of charging stands. Coming in Solo or Duo (one pad or two), these new stands ensure that your days of desperately harvesting batteries from the TV remote while your helpless character gets their skull caved in are a thing of the past.
The Solo stand for the Xbox Series S|X and Xbox One lets you charge a single pad in its snug cradle.
The setup is straightforward; first, plug the cradle into the back of your console via USB or the mains with a suitable plug. Then put the included rechargeable battery pack in your controller and replace the back cover. Finally, put the controller on the dock to charge, and you are good to go.
For the best part, it does its job well with a handy light on the front that tells you when the pad is charging and when it’s finished. However, I did have some issues with the controller losing contact with the charger whenever my desk wobbled.
It’s also worth noting that the battery in the rechargeable pack is less powerful than Microsoft’s official charging pack. Although to be fair, it is also half the price.
Like the PS5 version, the Solo Charging Stand for Xbox has face plates that easily snap on and off to coordinate the stand with your Series S or X. It may be a minor feature, but it’s a welcome one.
If you only have one controller and are unlikely to get a second, the Gioteck Solo Charging stand is an affordable device that does the job. However, I recommend getting the Duo version instead, as you can switch controllers in the unlikely event it runs out of charge, and you never know when you might want a second pad.
