The mysterious Nordic Giants have released a new video for Faceless, the first single from their upcoming album Symbiosis.
According to the band, the track and film, featuring Alex Hedley, touches upon the symbology surrounding the mythical ouroboros symbol – or snake swallowing its own tail.
Rôka and Löki said: “It’s an allegory for the trappings of life, where every soul is accountable for their own path, but often chooses to remain in the comforts of ignorance or self-sabotage. It’s a little dark, but it’s also quite funny.
“A huge thank you to our good friend and actor Simon Brice, who literally got dragged through hell and back whilst filming and also to Nathan M Hetherington for his production assistance.“
Set for release on 4th February, Symbiosis is the band’s second full-length album, the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2015 debut, A Sèance of Dark Delusions, and 2017 documentary and soundtrack project – Amplify Human Vibration.
Sonically, Symbiosis weaves a broad tapestry of weird and wonderful sounds, from vintage analogue synths, Tibetan bowls and even a Carnyx horn. The album also features guest vocals from Alex Hedley and Freyja who both add a haunting and ethereal air to the multi-layered instrumental album.
Talking about their writing process on Symbiosis, Rôka and Löki said: “We start with a pure idea, we take all the emotions that live inside us, that are buried deep within the sub-consciousness mind and give them the opportunity to shine through in musical form.
“Much like our first album – Symbiosis is a multi-layered album, it’s going to be hard to understand the depth of emotion or spirit of the album on the first listen or even the second. But hopefully, even on the 100th listen there may still be new layers revealing themselves to you.”
Following the release of Symbiosis, the band will embark on a tour of the UK with Norwegian noise-rockers Årabrot. The fun off at YES in Manchester on 16th February and finishes with a solo performance at Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach on 28th February.
Rôka and Löki said: “Imagination can take you anywhere, and we hope this album & tour will transport you to otherworldly places.”
