SEGA has announced a remake of Virtua Fighter 5 will be released exclusively on the PS4 next week.
Released as part of SEGAs 60th anniversary celebrations, Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown is being touted as the ‘definitive edition of the fifth instalment in SEGA’s popular fighting game series’.
Co developed by SEGA’s AM2 and Ryu ga Gotoku studios, and rebuilt using the Yakuza engine. Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown updates the original with improved HD graphics and character models, as well as new online features.
“The Virtua Fighter series holds a storied place in SEGA lore,” said Seiji Aoki, Chief Producer. “This new title was developed as part of SEGA’s 60th Anniversary project by an all-star team at AM2 and Ryu ga Gotoku Studios. I am delighted for fans to play and experience the latest entry in the series.”
Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown includes the following features:
- Remade for a New Generation: Play classic Virtua Fighter 5 in glorious HD with updated character models, stages, cinematics, and background music.
- Crush the Competition: Create private rooms for up to 16 players and take on all challengers in round-robin style League Matches, Tournament Matches, and other new online match types. Spectate in real-time and communicate live with stamps as the battle heats up!
- Custom Combatants: Enter the ring with one of 19 playable characters. Master each of their unique fighting styles across a variety of solo and online modes.
- The Full Experience: Experience the pinnacle of Virtua Fighter 5 combat in classic modes like “Rank Match”, “Arcade”, “Training”, and “Offline Versus” as you battle to become the next World Fighting Tournament legend!
Sony has confirmed Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown will launch as part of June’s PS+ game’s lineup on June 1.
