Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time coming to new-gen systems and Switch next month

It’s finally official, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is headed to Switch and new-gen systems next month.

The Crash will slam his way onto Series S/X, PS5 and Switch on March 12.

Speaking to Push Square, Toys for Bob Creative Producer Lou Studdert revealed that those who already own the PS4 or Xbox One version of the game would receive a free upgrade to the new-gen version. All save data, and achievements would also be carried over from the current-gen versions for existing players.

Studdard also confirmed the game would run at native 4k at 60fps, with significantly improved load times on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

When pressed about the performance of the game on Nintendo’s system, Studdert said: “The team itself has taken the game and basically done tuning to make sure that it works on the Nintendo Switch, and making sure that it works on the go, works docked and undocked.

“It’s 720p when undocked, and 1080p when docked. Frame rate is 30.”

Studdert also stated that the PS5 version of the game is set to take full advantage of several of the console’s exclusive features.

He said: “We had our audio team look at and work with the enhanced 3D audio feature on PS5, so it takes advantage of that, which is really cool.

“We were also able to play with the adaptive triggers. I mean those adaptive triggers, I don’t need to tell you, are really fun and really tactile. So we went back and made it so our playable characters that use those buttons, Cortex and Tawna, for instance, take advantage of those adaptive triggers. It really adds this cool tactility when you’re playing as them.

“So you’ve got Cortex’s blaster that blockifies and jellifies enemies to make them into platforms; it really feels like you’re pulling the trigger of the blaster. Tawna’s [hook shot] is super-cool because you get that trigger feel, but then once it goes, in the trigger you actually feel the coiling rope extending out, and then impacting before it pulls her to the next location. I love the work the team did with the adaptive triggers.”

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time launches on PS5, Xbox Series systems and Switch, on March 12. In North America, the game will cost $59.99 on new-gen systems and $39.99 on Switch. Pricing in the UK and Europe is yet to be confirmed.
